DEMONS 18, JM HUBER 4
Your Quincy Park District defending Division V softball champs continued their domination with a five-inning mercy rule victory Thursday night at Wavering Park.
After allowing Quincy Police officer Tom "The Siren" Miller's team to open a 2-0 lead, your Demons stormed back and took control with a six-run third inning. Leading the charge was Shawn The Grass Cutter, who blasted a majestic solo homer in the bottom of the second into the teeth of a south wind. When The Siren pitched Grass Cutter outside, Shawn responded by belting two more hits to the opposite field, including an inside-the-park home run.
Kriss Kross continues to atone for his season-opening lack of hustle blunder by smacking two triples, though it could be argued he turned two sure inside the parkers into three-baggers. Mark E Mark also had a big game with three hits.
Hit Man Hart continued his error a game average at shortstop, and also fell asleep in the top of the second. Instead of covering second, he froze on a grounder back to pitcher Jazzy Jeff, who flipped a ball to Marky Mark covering second. The ball would have hit Hit Man in the nose, which meant it was five feet over Marky Mark's head. It led to two runs but the Demons are never flustered by dumb mistakes .... we've made enough of them.
Kudos to Big John Stuff at first who made two scooping plays early and shook the earth when he fell after one spectacular scoop.
The Demons are back in action next Thursday at 9 p.m. when we take on Phil Craig, always a contender and dangerous team in Division V. Hit Man will be coming straight from Funions practice so he promises to be "tuned up."
Hurry back, DOB ....
