DOB's back, so are the Demons!!!!!
The triumphant return of DOB Thursday night signaled the return of the Demons team we all know and love.
With DOB continuing to swing the hottest bat on the team despite a two-week layoff, the Demons drubbed Snap-On Tools to the tune of 18-8 (not 16-6 as the earlier blog posting noted).
The Demons raced out to an early lead and were never threatened on a hot, humid day at Moorman Main. Rained out earlier this season against the Snap-On boys, the Demons gave them an idea of what life will be like when we meet them again in a few weeks. We knocked the dude that looked like John Belushi on the hill all over the park. Had it not been for a gimpy Kriss Kross holding up Chuck D and forcing himself into an out, we may still be batting in the second inning.
(One Demon asked if we were playing the U.S. Cooler boys again. I don't even want to think about having to watch the Coolerz and Snap-On go toe-to-toe.)
The Weamster did an adequate job on the mound, even without DOB behind the plate to guide him. Nick The Quick and Ed served as catchers while DOB roamed the outfield for the first time this season.
(By the way, what would possess you to put a weapon like DOB in the outfield? He's money behind the plate. He's talked numerous players into swinging at Weamster's cruddy offerings this season. Hopefully, the Weamster will see fit to put DOB at shortstop when Hitman Hart goes on vacation in a few weeks. He's that darn good.)
As he's done all year, DOB was the man at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a double. Lifting his batting average to .636 (14 for 22) with 9 RBI. Dubbed Rabe Jr. by his teammates after a sizzling double down the left-field line, DOB is making a case to be a Quincy Park District Division V All-Star this season.
Since we were playing in the big 300-foot fenced Moorman Main, no Demon hit a dinger, unless you want to count Shawny's inside-the-park job, which was boosted by an error or two.
Big ups to Ed for giving us a nice breeze as well. Ed took a mighty cut and wiffed on his last at-bat of the night.
After the game, my son, Derek, who is owed about 10 quarters from Kris Kross for his potty mouth asked me the following question:
"Does Matthew get picked on a lot?"
Only 7 years old, but as sharp as a tack that kid is.
By the way, we might not have Ed to kick around for much longer. Sources tell me that he's pondering a move up to Division IV. Wonder if he'll pay that team his league fees since the Weamster's still waiting for his for this season?
After hearing the rumor, one Demon said, "Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you."
The big battle with Best Kept Lawns is this week at 6 p.m. Hopefully, we all bring our "A" games this week.
